Garage converted into a home gym with power rack, kettlebells and rubber flooring

A home gym built around you

Skip the membership and the commute. A converted garage makes the ideal home gym, with the space for weights, cardio equipment and floor work, and it's ready whenever you are.

We insulate, ventilate and finish it for year round training, with tough flooring, plenty of power for your equipment and good lighting throughout.

Built to suit how you train, whether that's heavy lifting, classes or a simple space to stay active.

FAQs

Common Questions

The things people most often ask about a home gym conversion.

  • Can the floor take heavy weights?

The existing concrete slab is a solid base. We insulate and level it, then fit heavy-duty flooring. If you're planning heavy lifting or dropping weights, say so at the survey and the floor build-up is specified for it.

  • Will it get hot or stuffy?

Ventilation is part of every gym conversion, and we can add power for a fan or air conditioning unit where you want it.

  • What about noise for the neighbours?

Insulation cuts a lot of sound on its own. If you train early or late, or share a wall, acoustic insulation can be added to that wall.

  • Do I need planning permission?

Often not. Converting an integral or attached garage is usually permitted development, as long as the work is internal and the building isn't enlarged. You may need planning if your permitted development rights have been removed (common on newer estates), the house is listed, or it's in a conservation area. Harry checks this at the survey, before you commit to anything.

  • Does it need Building Regulations approval?

Yes. Turning a garage into a habitable room has to meet Building Regulations for insulation, ventilation, fire safety, damp-proofing and the new window. That's built into every job, through to Building Control sign-off and your completion certificate.

  • What happens to the garage door?

It comes out and is replaced with a new wall on proper foundations, usually with a window, finished to match the outside of your house as closely as possible.

  • How long does it take?

It depends on the size of the garage and what you're turning it into. You'll get a timeline with your itemised quote, and Harry keeps you updated throughout the build.
